Home Maintenance
Part of the responsibility of being a homeowner is maintaining your property. From small fixes, to larger jobs, there is an endless list of projects to do at any house. While you can push off many of these jobs for when you have the time or money, there are some projects that should not be ignored, including:
- Leaky roof – when water leaks into your house through your roof, it can cause mold, structural damage, and even a fire if the water comes in contact with electrical wires. The sooner you discover a leaky roof, the less expensive it will be to fix and the less damage will be caused at your home.
- Pests – most pests do not travel alone, which means if you see one termite, you likely have a whole colony somewhere close by. Pests can chew through the structure of your house, as well as the electrical system if they are let free to run. If you find a serious pest issue at your home, make sure to call in the professionals to keep your house looking its best.
- Foundation cracks – as homes get older, foundation cracks are very common. If you have a crack in your foundation that is large enough to fit a pencil in, it needs to be fixed immediately. Talking with an engineer or contractor will give you a better idea of how to fix the issue.
- Septic system issues – if you are not part of a sewer system, all of your waste goes into a septic tank, which needs to be pumped out every few years. If you notice a foul smell or that the area around the tank is soggy, it could be a sign of a problem. Hire a professional to decide what to do next.
